On the Twelfth Day of Sock Yarn, Simply Sock Yarn gave to meeeeeeeee......
A $100 Gift Certificate to SSYC!
To have a chance at being one of two winners to get $100 to spend on whatever you'd like in our shop, simply answer the following question in the comments below:
What will you be working on for the next two days? Will you be making a new pair of socks for yourself because you are all done with your holiday gifts? Will you, like me, still be working on gifts? Will you not be knitting or crocheting anything because your family will be descending upon your home and you'll be cooking and drinking and hanging out? Do tell!
I will be finishing up the socks I'm knitting for my sister in law in the Hundertwasser color I shared here a couple days ago. I also hope to finish some more mitts for people, but if I do have the time I plan on making them in LITLG DK Tweed because it's just SO COOL. Thankfully, our Christmas here is low key with the kids until my entire family comes to my house later this month for our big celebration. So I have a few more days to knit and cook and prepare. Much needed extra time, for sure!
I hope you all have a lovely holiday and happy new year! You've made 2024 a busy year for us here in the shop, when many small retail businesses can't say the same. It's been a heck of a year full of setbacks, growth, surprises, hard work and beautiful color. I really appreciate each and every one of you that orders from us, shares us with your friends, and has helped us grow for nearly 20 years. You are all some of my favorite people, and it's been a pleasure serving you for so long. Thank you for it all!
It typically takes me about a month to draw winners, email them and finally compile the email sharing the winners with you all. Thank you for your patience!
Merry Christmas to all!
I am working on socks of course! I also want to get into making Izzy dolls and hope to make at least one in the next couple days to put places for children to find. Each one will be unique.
I am also planning for next years projects: what can I learn or do better in my knitting?
Posted by: Jacquie Krauskopf | December 24, 2024 at 08:55 AM
I still have 5 projects on the needles: 3 are hats that are destined to be New Year's presents. I do participate in Christmas, sure, but I've learned over the years that people often feel a bit of a let-down right afterward, so I tend to do my big presents at New Years. 2 of the 3 hats are using Rios from my last order with you: there is nothing better than making loving gifts using a yarn that brings me so much pleasure. Happy-Merry, everyone!

I will be working on my Alpine Meadow Shawl which I started ages ago, but haven't been able to work on this year because we adopted two new kittens in May and they won't let me knit when they're awake! Merry Christmas! šā

dishcloth on the side. Lynn

Iāll still be working on gifts! I made a last minute decision to make socks for the in laws so Iām furiously knitting to get them done!

I am finishing up a pair of socks for my boss. She wonāt be returning to the office until the 31st, so she wonāt know I am late getting this done! š§¦š

Iāll be working on a shawl. And if I get bored maybe start a pair of socks, my Go To!,
Posted by: Trudy | December 24, 2024 at 09:16 AM
Honestly? Not a clue. I have plenty of stuff for socks, but I also have a shawl Iāve been (very) slowly working on, and I have the materials to make a pretty spring top for my daughterā¦ but Iāve never done a top before so it makes me a little nervousā¦

My family won't be celebrating until the weekend, so I'm working the next 2 days. And church, and wrapping, and cleaning, and decorating the tree that was put up last night, and... I have a "brainless" baby afghan in the works when I get a chance to play.

Socks in Urth sock twins in the Christmas color way. I'm on the second sock!

All of my holiday present knitting is done (yeah!) but I still have requests for socks and mittens that need to be knitted. I wonāt get back to knitting items for me for several weeks yet. But, I really enjoy making things for others and seeing them light up when they open the package!

It will be a quiet XMAS for me. I am thinking am going to work on either an afghan I started a while ago or work on a scarf of some kind. I do have a few ideas of stuff I can work on including knitting socks of some kind. I am off from my job till Friday so I could see a bunch of knitting of somekind getting done and or started. I think my problem is I have too many ideas.

I will be knitting a lightning-fast pair of bulky mittens today for a last-minute gift and will then begin in earnest on a test knit I'm excited to be doing--a dk shawl. I also have a sweater in progress that I'm making for a friend--easy rounds of stockinette that I may work on while I watch Elf with the family tomorrow. Happy holidays to all!

Happy Holidays! I have a sock on the needles (of course) plus I'm knitting a blanket for a baby that's due in January (Baby Blanket Squares) and I might continue repairing a wool sweater for a friend (Swiss darning to reinforce the elbows plus re-knitting a small hole).

I gave up on the gifts so I will have to have those hats ready for next year. I wanted to make about 20 hats and finished 8. lol. It was a busy semester and I didnāt get to knit as much. Right now, Iām working on advent socks. Iām only on stripe 9, and I need to assemble Gnana, my gnome. Also blanket squares - on April. I really got behind. I have a sweater Iād like to finish from a couple years ago. Itās Vivi by Marie Greene with Rios. And I wanted to actually do the hiberknitting shawl this year! Year of gnomes starts January 1st so I need to get ready for that. Just knitting for myself now! I have some ends to weave in for a blanket, last years advent socks which I found completed in with my blanket yarn supplies. So hopefully, Iāll have some relaxing time. My parents are here now till Friday!

Today I am finishing a small gnome Santa that has to be wrapped and ready for tomorrow - I have just the arms and assembly to do, so not too bad. I had 3 months to make this, so of course I started last night. Tomorrow - socks or a hat, with no deadline. Ahhhhh.

I donāt think Iāll have time to knit - maybe a few rows of a dishcloth, if anything. Today Iām working on baking buns, and tomorrow we go to my brotherās so Iāll be spending time with my nephews. Hopefully Iāll have more time for knitting after Christmas. Wishing you all a wonderful holiday season!

I am working on another pair of socks for my son. This pair is my first attempt at a contrasting cuff, heel and toe. My son loves knitted socks. He kept coming into the living room to see if I had started them, lol. After this pair of socks, it will be mittens for me.

Mittens - I have 3 pairs that only need thumbs and working on 4th pair second mittenā¦. If i donāt finish I will wrap them and given them the unfinished mittens and will take back and finish by weekend. Itās a tradition that someone gets something not finished.
Maybe next yearā¦.everything will be finished by Christmas. Haha

Keeping a sock on the needles for sanityās sake. In a spare moment, doing a few rows is soothing.
Posted by: Ann | December 24, 2024 at 10:55 AM
I'm finishing up a pair of socks for me. Weaving in the ends and there were many. These are my advent socks and I used the "roll the dice" method to pick color and the number of rows for each day. Lots of fun.
Thanks for hosting this contest. It's fun and I know it takes time. I appreciate it.

Today Iāll be sewing on the quilt Iām piecing and knitting a little on the socks that are on my needles, finishing the Christmas novel Iām reading, and baking cookies. Tomorrow, itās Christmas breakfast with my older sonās family, then back home for my younger son and I to fix our Christmas dinner and have a quiet Christmas at home.

I want to finish my sock weight sweater that I've been working on forever. I have half a neckline of icord.
Posted by: Sarah | December 24, 2024 at 11:29 AM
As usual Iām trying to finish a gift, this year the last knitted item is for my sister-in-law. Itās the āSorceress Scarfā knit in herringbone stitch. But I still have to prepare dough for homemade buns, make a broccoli salad, make hamburger soup for my sick husband (who will miss Christmas dinner at my sisters), and finish wrapping a few gifts. So my sister-in-law will probably get her gift with the needles still in it, sadly it wonāt be the first time this has happened. Every year I vow to start in January, but something else always needs to get done first. This year will be no different, as after the holidays I need to start a Celtic blanket for my nephew and his fiancĆ© who will be getting married in 2025 (she is from Ireland, hence the Celtic pattern). But hopefully something for myself for a change too. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

I will work on a pair of socks for my husband -The Little Black Socks pattern from Summer Lee.
Posted by: Marilyn | December 24, 2024 at 11:37 AM
I'll be blocking socks I just finished, starting a new pair, as well as finishing Summer's teeny tiny tree sock ornament :) I didn't have a spare set of size 1's so they are on 0's and boy are they tiny! I will also inevitably be doing some last minute errands :/ Thanks so much for the fun of these contests! I've really enjoyed reading them before bed. Merry Christmas!

I will be knitting a couple socks I hope to get finished by the end of the year, but I will have limited knitting time due to being with family. A good trade off :)
Merry Christmas and thanks for a fun contest!

I will be working on my Rasta mittens. My partner kept leaving the door standing open while he was going in & out doing yard work. He insisted I was nuts for begging him not to because moths might get in. Well ALL of my socks & mittens have holes in them. (They seem to especially like Hedgehog Fibres with LITLG & Malabrigo close contenders.) Iāve knit 3 pairs of socks (Iām retired & wear Uggs around the house so thatāll do gif now) but havenāt finished the mittens. If I get them finished, Iāll start a matching hat.
Posted by: Donna T | December 24, 2024 at 11:44 AM
Still working on socks. Hope to start a pair of mittens.
Posted by: Carmie Anderson | December 24, 2024 at 11:45 AM

I spent yesterday, and will spend all day today, helping my granddaughter finish the afghan she's making for her mother. It's crooked, and the squares are poofy, but it's a very special present that I have the joy of helping to create.
My personal knitting can wait!
Posted by: Jeannette | December 24, 2024 at 11:51 AM
Once I finish kitchnering a pair of slipper socks this afternoon, the gift knitting is complete!
Then I'll knit one of the other projects I have already on my needles - 4 afghans, 2 pairs of socks, a pair of fingerless gloves, 1 cowl and one shawl. Or maybe I'll cast on a new shawl with the yarn Santa is bringing. What can I say, I am not a monogamous knitter - lol.
Happy Holidays!
Posted by: Susan | December 24, 2024 at 11:53 AM
I finished all my gift knitting, wrapped and some were shipped. On the needles are a pair of self-stripping socks for my granddaughter's next birthday. After that I will knit for myself, socks of course.

Merry Christmas!
Iām working on socks with the beautiful Christmas sock set I ordered from you - itās from yarn love yarn and you threw in some stitch markers, which were so appreciated, thank you! Iām originally from Europe and now living in Florida and missing the cold and my family a lot. To be honest, it doesnāt feel like Christmas. My husband is working most of it too. So I ordered the sock yarn to get myself into tne Christmas spirit/feeling one stitch at a timeā¦I will be casting on in 3ā¦2ā¦1

We celebrated Christmas last night. Both boys and their girlfriends are heading to the next celebration. Iām thinking about starting a new sock even though I have 2 on the needles. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!!
Posted by: Susan | December 24, 2024 at 12:13 PM
I will be working on my Christmas Stocking - "Oslo" by Anne Hanson, "Knitspot". The one for DH, in the same pattern is finished, and he thought we should have matching ones. Although what possessed me to think I could do a sescond one before Christmas, I have no idea. It is a lovely pattern, but not a quick knit.
Posted by: Judy | December 24, 2024 at 12:19 PM
I am shaping the toe of a second sock now so my mind is full of ideas of what I'll be knitting next. I do have a garter-stitch triangle shawl on the needles but like to have two WIPs at all times.
Happy Holidays to all!
Posted by: MarthaO | December 24, 2024 at 12:20 PM
I haven't decided exactly what I'm going to start knitting next. I could pick up one of my WIPs, but am perhaps I'll start one of the sweaters for which I've already purchased the yarn. Since I just finished the one gift I was knitting for a Christmas gift, I'm not feeling obligated to work on a specific project. My next project is just for me.
Posted by: Donna Gerber | December 24, 2024 at 12:20 PM
Iāll have my hands full with family gathering and cooking so probably no knitting for me until the day after Christmas, but then Iāll get to relax and work on the second sleeve of an almost done sweater.
Posted by: Jennifer | December 24, 2024 at 12:20 PM
Iām working on my second āCorbisā sweater, having finished a whole slew of cowls to donate for our local Historical Societyās Christmas market. It is decidedly NOT mindless knitting. š§¶

Today is a flurry of projects. Finishing the picot trim on a shawl I'm giving as a gift, knitting the turtleneck on my dog's new sweater, and finishing up a couple of "cuddle buddies" and "blankies" for several of the new animals I've just taken in. Family descends tomorrow and I look forward to seeing the response to the knitted hats, shawls and socks I've made as gifts thanks to the lovely yarn in your store. After all the food and festivities are over, I have another shawl and a pair of socks to begin--the needles are always clicking!
Posted by: A. Martin | December 24, 2024 at 01:52 PM
I need to get off my computer right now to go put some duplicate stitches on a gift hat, wind in the ends, and get the darned thing blocked. Fingers crossed that I can get it into a gift bag and dropped onto a doorstep across town this evening. Then I can return to another gift knit, a small scarf, but it's not for Christmas, so no pressure. But before that, it'll be time to put the decorations on the tree first, which DD strung with lights late last night.
