Dear Knitters,
I'd like a small project to keep in my car. Something that is easy to pick back up after a week or more of ignoring it. Do you have an on-the-go project that you would recommend? A specific pattern please. Socks or single skein project of another sort.
With gratitude,
Carol in the Car

Musselburgh hat. I keep one in progress all the time. Finished hats become gifts to a local charity.

I've been traveling with hexapuffs for a Beekeeper's Quilt ever since the pattern came out. At this point, I think I've worked on that project in about 10 states and two Canadian provinces.

I like either a 3x1 ribbed sock (k3, p1 leg and top of foot after about 12 rounds of 1x1 rib) or the Diagonal Rib Socks by Ann Budd (https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/diagonal-rib-socks).

I have a c2c dishcloth going at all times. Small, easy, no pattern to remember.

Vanilla socks is my go-to pattern. Depending on my mood, modifications may happen.

A simple, mindless, ribbed sock pattern is my out-of-the-house knitting. Great for traveling, waiting rooms, knitting group and anywhere else I can't or don't want to concentrate on my knitting. The I Heart Harvest Sock is my current favorite.

My favourite is the Jessica Jones Cowl and Hat, which uses a relaxing linen stitch in the round easy to stop or start at any point.

Sockhead hat or cowl, or a regular beanie.

My go too pattern for socks and traveling is Kate Atherly Designs Basic Ribbed Sock. It is a free pattern on Ravelry and fits better than a plain vanilla sock.

I'm forever making dishcloths using Chinese Waves Dishcloth by Margaret Radcliffe.
And I've knit Pebble Arch Shawl by Karen Hoyle a few times - it's a great shape for keeping my neck warm in the winter without being bulky.
Both patterns are only a four row repeat that's easy to memorize.

Sockhead Hat or Sockhead Cowl

I am really enjoying knitting on my Jessica Jones linen stitch cowl in fingering weight. It makes a really pretty textured fabric and is very easy to pick up and put down. A free version of a linen stitch cowl is the Oddly Satisfying Cowl written for DK.

I have a Sockhead hat in the car, though I'm not in the car much so may take me 2 years to knit it.

A Sophie Scarf by PetiteKnit lives in my backseat tote bag. Easy to see where I left off, even if it's been months.

The Mike Shawl on Ravelry is an easy knit. Make it as large as you please, and it can be worn too keep the chill off or used as a lap blanket.
A simple dishcloth is my backup project once I’ve dropped stitches on a vanilla sock

My favorite mindless knits are the Diagonal Comfort Blanket (for baby) from Lion Brand and the Ribbed Hand Warmers from Purl Soho.

The hitchhiker scarf on Ravelry is what I use in this situation. I’ve made at least four of them and they are great for gifts.
