Dana Snyder

I have knit a lot of memorable projects but I think the Lemon Spritz might be my favorite gift I’ve ever given! I always do the Marie Green 4 Day KAL in July and this year instead of knitting it for myself, I made it for my mom! It was an early Christmas present and I gave it to her in August so she could wear it. I can’t make her warm sweaters cause she goes to Florida from PA for the winter. She loves it!

Natalie

I made pillows from the two become one pattern for my children when they got married!

Pat

My most memorable knit is Antler by Tin Can Knits. Interesting construction and love the fit.

SS

My most memorable project was my first Icelandic sweater. I didn't buy enough of the MC and didn't really know what I was doing. I waited to go back to Iceland to buy more yarn, which of course was now not the same dye lot. So I had to frog several rounds of the sweater, and then untwist the old and new yarn, wind the two old+new together and hope it blended enough for the dramatic shift in color to look nicer. All in all, it took me about 2 years to finish that sweater.

Laura D

My daughter’s lace wedding shawl. When I finished I thought, I should stop knitting now!

Jenn Nevitt

Baby blankets for all of my kiddos have to be some
Of my most memorable!

Nicole Acuna

A personalized Christmas stocking I just made for my 4 year old grandson.. he helped me pick all the colors and absolutely loves it!!

Yvonne

I think what comes to mind was my attempt at trying to make a Dr Who scarf for a special friend. Before this project I got some stripe yarn from another seller and made this Dr Who inspired scarf. And of course it got used very much. So I got a message from my special bud could you make me a new scarf. Unfortunately the yarn used for that project wasnt around. So I had gone into Ravelry and had gotten the idea to make a Dr WHo scarf. I am more of a knitter than a crocheter but looking at the patterns I had found the crochet version sounded easier especially dealing with all those ends. WHen this scarf was done it ended up being very tall and long as well as a key part for a cosplay. If I every do one again I know there are other ways and better ways to do a scarf like that

Sarahu

Most memorable was a baby blanket I made for a good friend. She was about to have her baby girl.. it was just one month before what would have been my own due date, had we not lost the baby. Making that blanket was both and act of love for my friend and healing for myself. ♥️

Mandy G

I completed a blanket last year and was so proud of myself for sticking with it (only took me two years!). And now my kids and I love to snuggle up in it!

Brenda

I have made daughter babies outfits to come home from hospital then I love when granddaughter “designs Barbie clothes for me to knit

Susan Giles

Baby blankets for my friend of 40 years for her granddaughters

Jenna

When I was young my aunt knit everyone Christmas stockings which we still use 40+ years later. So, when each of my kids were born, I continued her tradition and knit their stockings. Every year I take them all out and it gives me the warm fuzzies to see them hanging next to mine.

S.E

When I was pregnant with my oldest my mom and I both knit squares for a blanket in really ugly acrylic yellow lol this was 1985.

Laura Linneman

I knit a baby blanket for a friend who had been trying for over a decade to get pregnant. They had given up after doing everything and then had a surprise baby! It was such a joyful occasion!

Anna

I also think it's a recently completed project. My first Rhinebeck fest was this year! I loved my colorful Paul Klee sweater I knit to wear for it.

Rhonda

My most memorable project I have knitted is my current work in progress. My grandson who is 9 asked me to knit him another hat. He said "your hats are the best, Nana". Ok little buddy you get one! What an awesome comment from my grandson and when my grandson said that it made his dad (my son) smile which warmed my heart double. He has also thanked me many times since I started it for making him a hat. It will be finished by Christmas as it is getting cold here in Oklahoma.

Debbie

Most memorable for me is a log cabin afghan using different noro kureyon for each square. I then handspun for the borders. This was a project that kept me company while sitting with my Mom during dialysis treatments.

Donna Flynn

My most memorable project is a baby blanket for my first grandson, that I knit 5 1/2 years ago. He has used it as a caps, a skirt to twirl in, as roof in a blanket fort, and it's gone everywhere with him. Last summer he asked me to do some extensive repairs to "Wee" and it's still going.

Katherine S.

My most memorable knit item is a felted tote bag I made. I was learning how to do stranded knitting at my LYS, which has since closed. I fell in love with felting projects after that, and use that tote regularly.

Susan

A lacey baby sweater for my first granddaughter. I added a hat and booties for a set.

Anela

Perhaps my most memorable project was a lace shawlette I knit for a friend’s 100th birthday. One day I picked it up and discovered I had dropped a stitch or two and it had fallen down about 10 or 15 rows. I nearly cried, but my bestie helped me fix it without frogging.

Renee carter

My most memorable project was a shawl I made for my mother. Her favorite color is yellow. She had just lost my dad (who fought courageously against cancer). I took her to my local yarn store and told her I would make her anything she wanted. I just wanted to make her smile. My skill set was very limited. She picked a bright yellow yarn and a shawl she saw in the store. It was a challenge but my mom ( who is not a knitter) had faith in me. I am thankful for the internet, being able to look up M1L Ssk and M1r. My skill set has greatly improved over the last ten years. That little yellow shawl is still the most precious thing I’ve ever made. Even with its mistakes. To see the smile on my moms face when she tried it on and every time she wears it.

Olha

My most memorable project - cashmere sweater for my mother. It was long project but worth it! I've made a shades of white to grey with very thin yarn (lace). My mom loves this sweater 😍

Andrea

My most memorable is my first sweater!! Excited to try socks in 2024!

Jeannette

It's the ridiculous sweater I'm currently knitting. It's a twin to a boring (no pattern) sweater I knit 20 years ago for one of my kids, that's been passed down, and currently worn (and loved) by my youngest. My oldest grandchild believes it's time to be passed to her. Everyone wants "greenie"

Frances

The most memorable is probably a pink and purple sweater made for my granddaughter. It is loved and worn often

Cathy

My most memorable knit was the Vogue cat sweater. Thirty years later, I’ve kept this sweater. It’s so dear to me.

Jen

My daughters fiance gets very excited to get hanknit socks for Christmas. I’ll never forget his reaction when he opened his first pair!

ludistitcher

A Mommy doll for my daughter that looks like me. She asked for it when she was littler and didn't want to sleep without me in her bed and still keeps it to sleep with.

Suzzanne.

Most memorable …..that’s a hard question. Probably the socks I have knit for my Dad. He shows them to me every time we visit and tells me he wears them to bed to keep his feet warm. He also “saves” new pairs a while before wearing them because they’re special.

Lisa

My most memorable knit was knitting my first pair of socks! I learned to knit my first pair on using double pointed needles with self striping yarn by Regia designed by Arne and Carlos! I haven’t stopped since! It brings me joy knitting socks for my whole family! They especially enjoy wearing my hands knit socks and aways tell me how cozy and comfortable they are to wear! I now knit socks with magic loop but I’m also glad I learned using double pointed needles.

Monica

One of my most memorable projects was also one of my earliest designs, the Mysa wrap. It had everything I love... beautiful, shimmering yarn and loads of beads.

Carolyn

Does crochet count? I crocheted a beautiful shawl for my daughter for her wedding in October 2016. It's the Ariane Shawl from Jose Crochet. She barely wore it on her wedding day because it was raining and she hasn't worn it since because she doesn't want anything to happen to it. I plan to make myself one because I love the shawl and would like to see one that gets used!

Linda Smith

My most memorable will have to be the first project, and I use that term loosely, . It was after my husband was diagnosed with bone cancer and then COVID 19 pounced on us. I became very depressed..so I needed something to occupy my mind and hands. I bought some purple yarn and learned to knit. It became a kap blanket with many different patterns and stiches that i practiced as I learned. It still comforts me. Learning to knit has saved my sanity. Literally. Yes I still have my strange little lap cover.

Sandra Sprouse

I made a dress for my brother’s first child and it turned out absolutely adorable!!

Theresa Maxwell

Years ago I knitted a pair of socks for a friend. She was so overwhelmed at receiving a handmade gift and was probably the first person I gave sonething to that truly appreciated the time. As it turned out she volunteered at a cancer center and soon I was making hats for her to give to the patients.

Virginia Harnischfeger

Shawls knit for my granddaughters for their First Communion Day. All three girls were gifted their shawls on Christmas preceding the May First Communion day.

Rebecca Greetan

My most memorable knitting project was when my mother passed away I decided to knit all her sisters a prayer shawl in her memory. Four prayer shawls and another for my mother’s best friend. A loving note was sent with each one.

Terri

I knit both my DILs a shawl as part of their wedding gift. They got to pick the style and yarn. Needless to say they were very different, lol.

Sarah

Definitely the Christmas stockings I’ve made for family and friends. It started as wedding gifts and I’ve been able to update them as new additions join each family. They have brought me and those who have them so much joy!

Gee

I have only been knitting and crocheting for a short while so I don't have a huge library of finished knits, but one project that I hold close to my heart is my first Pine Cobble Hat, pattern by Bumblebee Acres. I used a sock set from Sewrella's Mayflower collection. It was my first hat made in hand dyed yarn using a pattern from a small designer and it is so warm and so squishy and I am going to wear it all winter.

Diane smith

About 15 years ago for Christmas my son gave me yarn knitting needles and a book on how to knit so I could make him a Dr. Who scarf. All Christmas day I spent trying to learn to knit but could not figure it out. He ended up taking the book, learned it and taught me. I have been knitting ever since! BTW it took about 2 years to complete the 14 foot scarf

Alene Sternlieb

My most memorable knit seems to always be the last item I finish for someone else. Right now it’s an Antler sweater by Tin Can knits for my granddaughter. She has been wearing it non-stop.

Amey Wallace

When my brother shared he and his wife were expecting, I bought gradient fingering weight yarn and made a baby blanket for them. my sister in law displayed it very proudly, and when I insisted she use it, she said no... it's too special! then as their daughter got older, she would sneak in and use it for naptime, thinking no one ever knew she was using the special blanket... then she would so carefully fold it back up and put it back on display. lol. let's just say toddlers don't fold so well, but we all kept her secret!

Lynn B

The shawl I knit for my daughter to wear at her
Wedding. Soft pashmina and color orange. So fun to knit.
It was late October in Southern IL and sunny and 80 degrees.
So, it was not worn.

Susan

My most memorable project was my first. I taught myself to crochet so I could make a baby blanket for my great-nephew’s baby shower. My grandmother had, many years before, tried to teach me to crochet and declared me hopeless so it was a lot working through that. Thanks to all the people on YouTube that made “learn to crochet videos” - if they’d been DVDs I’d have worn them out. Mom loved it despite it being a bit wonky (I didn’t find the video that talked about keeping big granny squares square until it was as complete) and it’s still used 5 years later.

Diane

I knit a shawl and then gifted it to an older woman I never met. An acquaintance said his mother was always cold. She didn’t live much longer after that but I hope she was warmer wearing the shawl.

Phyllis

Recently, I knit a prayer shawl for my sister going through breast cancer treatment. Truly a labor of love.

Michelle Bryant

My husband and I drove from NY to WA state. We plot out our own little yarn crawl and stopped at 14 stores along the way. I bought at least 1 skein from each and made him a blanket for our 14th anniversary. He didn't know I was making the blanket and it was extra special to commemorate our week long drive to move across the country.

Wendi

My most memorable project was a baby sweater for my sweet new granddaughter. It was my first ever sweater and it turned out beautifully. Well, first I made it way too small but the second one was just right. That sweater gave me confidence to try others sweaters and sock making.

Dana

I made a beautiful lace shawl from Noro yarn. It was gifted to an acquaintance who gave me her Mom's yarn stash after she passed.

Martha O

My most memorable projects are the 36"-square baby blankets I knit. They are generally modular knits with minimal finishing, and watching them form is so very satisfying. But even more satisfying is receiving photos of the kids clutching them as they age. Or learning that moms saved them and they're now wrapping grands.

Ann

My most memorable was when I made a crocheted shawl for my cousin when she got married. It was one of my first that I designed myself and I was so worried she wouldn’t like it…but she loved it. She and her husband will be renewing their vows in 2024 and I look forward to seeing her wear it again.

Nancy

I usually follow patterns, but last year my daughter asked me to knit a Christmas stocking for her new baby girl. I designed it myself, with motifs that conveyed meaning within the family.

The new baby’s stocking featured a large snowflake. It also included a reindeer inspired by my daughter’s childhood stocking, and a Selbu star inspired by the stocking I had made previously made for my son-in-law. So the new baby has a Christmas stocking with her own symbol, and symbols for each parent, too.

Jackie

My most memorable knit was a hat for my new granddaughter.

Lara

My most memorable projects have been the smallest, and the cutest: gnomes, tiny cats, a plant or small stuffed animal for a college dorm. These have been the most fun and the things most enthusiastically received.

Penny

I made a Zick Zach scarf for my husband and combined 2 unlike but complementary yarns. It was beautiful, so beautiful he want 2 more feet added to the scarf. I thought I’d never finish it!

Ashley

My most memorable knit is my first one, a pikachu hat for my oldest. It was very adventurous for a beginner but I didn’t know that at the time 🤪 he loves it and still wears it at 16 which makes me smile every time he wears it :)

Jennifer Weston

I don't have just 1 project. My most memorable is knitting socks for my grandkids who continually ask me for more socks. There is nothing better than that! I have recently been knitting them socks using the Regia Christmas colors I picked up during your Christmas in July sale this summer.

Katherine Martinez

The most important heirloom to me is not something I personally crocheted, but rather my grandmother did for me last year. She had made me a blanket when my mom and dad married, (I was 2 years old) and last year she made me an adult sized blanket in the same colors of purple, white and black. I love having my bigger blanket for me and the baby blanket to hold onto for my kids or grandkids.

Lauren

My pick is my Vertices Unite. I just love wearing it.

Diane

My memorable project from this year is a alpaca/merino cardigan for my 98 year old mom for Christmas. She couldn't find anything she liked in the stores that was blue and warm. Hopefully this will fit the bill.

Donna

Matching cardigans for my son and his son. The baby cardigan was a shower gift . He is now 6 months old and will fit in it soon.

M Reedstrom

The first hat I made for my son. He is now 18.

Gayle King

The most important heirloom item was my first needlework project when I didn’t know what I was doing. My mother was crocheting a ripple afghan for my brother, who is 10 years older than me. After a period of time of watching her, I could mimic what she was doing and soon took over the project. I loved being able to make something for my big brother! My mother was doubly amazed because I could watch TV at the same time as working on it. A bittersweet memory of this afghan happened this week when my sister-in-law gave me the afghan since my brother recently passed.

Caroline Lloyd

My most memorable knit was my first pair of socks. How extraordinary that I could create something that looked so complex!

Mary Evers

During COVID I decided to knit the Kaffe Fassett African Stripe Coat. Being a conscience stasher, I had all the correct colors and yardage, but it take a lot of time and eyeballing colors to see if the yarn I had would work. It was knit from cuff to cuff. So much fun to knit!

Emily

I knit a beautiful lace baby blanket for the first born on my mom's side of the family.

Debra Cohen

I have made so many! My most recent was a hat I made for my 7 year old granddaughter. When she was visiting for Thanksgiving she asked me to knit her a new hat…seems her old Sockhead hat was too small. When I went through my stash her eyes lit up for a neon rainbow yarn. I can’t wait for her to see it now that it’s finished!

Sue Holecheck

My most memorable project was the 1st pair of socks that I completed.

Karen D

I think the most special knits are the items I have knit for my granddaughter. We didn’t know about her until she was 5 mos old. Our special surprise loves hand knits, and dresses up in my hats and shawls, and says, “Hi, I’m Oma” (German for Grandma)

Teresa Knittingdancer

a lace and beaded shawl for a friend's 50th birthday

Julie

My most memorable project is my first pair of socks. They were my second project ever. The woman who taught me to knit told me they were easy since all you do is knit and purl. She also said double pointed needles were no big deal. You just had to knit with your 2 needles and ignore the rest. So, I believed her and knit each section the way she told me, and she was right. My first sock was easy! Then I knit the second. They were perfect! I didn’t realize socks were considered difficult to knit ,especially on DPN s, until I
told another knitter about socks on DPNs being my second project and she informed me. So, basically I now go into all projects with the mindset that it’s easy.

Sandy Scofield

Dad was bedbound and angry. Crocheted a bag full of different size soft stuffed balls that he could throw without breaking anything.

Geraldine Scott

I guess my most memorable knit was newborn booties knitted in the round...definitely a challenge how tiny they were! Much easier these days knitting socks for teenagers!!

Christy Bacon

I think the magic of finishing my first pair of socks is my most memorable knit. I always have at least one sock on the go now

Nancy Traver

I'm going to dial the way-back machine for this one. Learning how to make socks from cotton that would stay up before we had all the great option now for my Dad so that his legs would not swell from the tight socks he had. Yes, in I'm in my 70's, they didn't have 'diabetic' sock then

Labrista wadkins

The Christmas stocking I knitted for my granddaughter.

Teresa Mc

My most memorable knit is a baby sweater I knitted for my daughter.

Denise McDonald

I have knit dresses, sweaters and baby blankets for grand nieces and nephews but the greatest joy I get is seeing my adult son wearing the socks I have made him … what joy 🧦 🧶!

Cindy Vogel

I think my most memorable project is a pair of socks that I made for an older male friend of mine . I have heard recently that he is now wearing them every night as his feet have started being cold. It makes me so happy that he loves them because I love him so much!

Sam Parfitt-Simpson

My most memorable project is my first ever lace shawl. Of course, I picked a pattern with beads and nupps and used seasilk (this is back in 2009 and I had zero idea of the complexities of any of these things), and proceeded to knit some every day on my train to and from university. It took 6 weeks, but I finished it, and I still have it and wear it. A lesson in patience haha

Angela Tarango

The first baby surprise sweater I ever knit! Mainly because it was more complicated than I had realized and took some finessing. I gave it to a friend for her little boy.

Amy Chapman

My most memorable project was a large throw I made for my sister at least 15 years ago. I had forgotten about it until I gave her a quilt I made for her king size bed at Chrismas last year. She sent me a picture of her bed and it had both the quilt and blanket. They coordinated beautifully and I didn't even plan it that way. Maybe it was a Christmas miracle!

Stephanie

My most memorable knit was intarsia cabled shawl I made for a friend's wedding

Pam Bacci

I made matching Christmas striped hats for my grandchildren and they continued to wear them all year long! 😂

Heather

My most memorable project was my Central Park sweater, that actually fit me.

Linda L in WI

A blanket for my first grandbaby.
I was in college when I placed my son for adoption. It was a closed adoption, so for 20+ years I didn't know where he was. I had no more children, so when he found me it was wonderful to see what an amazing man he'd become. And now that he and his wife have chosen to have children, I have grandbabies I never imagined having!

Donna Gerber

My most memorable knit has to be the blanket I knit for my first grandchild. To honor her Irish roots, I chose a pattern with Aran stitches. I used an alpaca yarn for its softness and warmth. I knit so intensely to finish in time for the baby shower that I gave myself tennis elbow!

Marilyn

My guernsey sweater- I got a book and researched the history and patterns and spent a year designing and knitting it. I still wear it over 20 years later.

Sharon Roberts

I think one of the most memorable is a baptismal gown and blanket I made for my niece’s first born. I’m hoping it may be passed on to my nephew’s first born bud in February

Jennifer

Mine is a scrappy slip-stitch beanie. I made it ages ago as a practice project and it turned out to be my husband’s very favorite. Now it’s faded and nearly worn out, but he’s still wearing it.

Geri Heagy

My “heirloom” project was a baby blanket for my first granddaughter. It was a pink, chocolate brown, a cream sampler blanket. Lots of fun to do!

Debbie

My first top down sweater. I couldn't believe it fit so well and so much fun not having to seam!

Nancy

The most memorable knits for me are probably baby knitwear and blankets when I receive a picture with the baby in them!

Filomena

Baby blankets are so precious

Lisa Smith

My most memorable knitting project is probably The Beatnik sweater. It was my first big project. I felt like a knitter after I finished it.

Ginny Graydon

My most memorable project was the year Puerto Rico had a devastating hurricane, can’t remember if it was six or seven years ago. I am a nurse at Cornell University, and we accepted 30 students from Puerto Rico in January to get them away from the devastation. I organized a group of knitters to net hats, and scarves and mittens and such For the soon to arrive students. I personally net 20 different hats for them. It was such a rewarding project.

Renee Huffman

I made my husband a granny square pixel blanket of MegaMan. 700+ squares and it is bigger than him ... But he loves it and covers up with it daily when we are sitting on the couch.
