Recently I heard from Masey Kaplan, founder of Loose Ends Project, which aims to ease grief, create community, and inspire generosity by matching volunteer handwork finishers with projects people have left unfinished due to death or disability. The idea for Loose Ends came about when the founders, Jennifer Simonic and Masey Kaplan, both avid knitters, realized that they had a shared experience: Friends would often ask them to finish blankets, sweaters, or other projects left undone by deceased loved ones. They always do so enthusiastically, understanding what it feels like to wear something a loved one has made.
They began this effort last September and it's quickly grown to include nearly 17,000 volunteer finishers from 60 countries. There is no charge to have projects finished. They have matched more than 1200 projects to volunteer finishers in the first year.
If you think this is something you might like to participate in sometime, or keep info about just in case, here's their flyer. You can also visit their website. I love the idea of this and thought there are many of you that would like to know more too.
What a lovely way to honor a fellow crafter.
