Socktober Monday No. 3 - on Tuesday + a Contest

It's the third Monday in Socktober which means we're releasing our third batch of awesome yarns! Well, it's actually Tuesday b/c we had some server issues yesterday and couldn't put all this lovliness online.... so Monday is Tuesday! This week features some super cool socks sets, deals in the Sale Section and a crazy amount of Madelinetosh. Want to see it all? Keep reading all the way to the bottom for a contest!

The one I'm super proud of (and may have really enhanced my own stash with) is the Tweed Me DK from Less Traveled Yarn for $5 off in the Sale Section. We do have all those colors at the time of this blog post, but our sale yarns tend to sell fast, sometimes within hours. So if you really want something, please do grab it fast. We have a new batch of our exclusive yarn, Colossal Sock from Dream in Color (shown above in The Edge and Dune) in the Sale Section. This stuff is dipped dyed so that the blocks of color stripe up if you knit it around 60-64 stitches around. I knit my Halloween socks on a US 1.5 with 60 stitches around and the stripes showed up really well. Originally I caston 68 and it didn't stripe. Isn't this set a fab color? Veronica, dyeing genius at Dream in Color, says that it's her interpretation of summer meeting winter. I love the vivid sky with green grass, don't you? Just a refreshing colorway. I've already added one to my stash.

Did you see the post last week about our huge Tosh restock? Not only do we have a ton of Tosh Meirno Light, but our Tosh DK also arrived too! With all the mills being closed for so long and base yarn being hard to get for dyers, I'm super pleased that we were able to get this (it had been nearly 6 months since we had a restock!). That said, what I miss most about “real” fall outside the desert southwest is taking a walk through the woods at sunset in November, when the leaves have fallen off the trees and you see the twisting shapes of all the bare branches against the sky as it changes from sunset to that deep twilight blue.

Fall is my favorite season because: the air smells crisp and sweet, apples of all varieties are coming in which makes for great apple dishes, homemade applesauce, apple cider and apple slushies; winter squash are in abundance for great meals in the oven (finally cool enough to bake again), the leaves change color and CRUNCH underfoot.....I love that feel, sound and smell! I love watching them swirl around in the air when the breeze blows, and after a few 30 degree nights, it literally “rains” leaves almost everyday, with or without a breeze! Pumpkins and mums on porches, the beginning of fires in the fireplace, lighting candles when the sun goes down earlier every day, SO many things to love about fall!

We are able to burn our leaves and brush in the spring and fall. There's nothing better than the smell of burning leaves/wood to bring back fond memories of summer camp. Those were some of the best days of my childhood.
