Please note, the timeline on this free pattern code has been extended by the designer. If you purchase the two skeins of yarn or the below kit for the pattern through June 7, we will e-mail it to you within a couple days of your order and the code has been extended until June 14. This means you have until June 14 at midnight to redeem the Ravelry coupon code we e-mail you. If you don't get your code by June 10, please check your spam and e-mail us. Make sure [email protected] is added to your contacts.
Last month, Casapinka celebrate LYS day virtually with us yarn shops by creating the Breathe and Hope shawl and it was such a welcome breath of fresh air. Yarn shops all over the country put together color ideas from the yarn we had on hand, and Casapinka gave us free pattern codes for each person that purchase shawl yarn from us, and it was a wonderful way to sell some yarn in a time that is difficult for so many small businesses. It really made a huge difference to me and my staff during this odd and difficult time.
Because Casapinka is made of awesome, she wanted to do more to help us shops, so she has developed a second shawl in this series, called the Hug Shot Shawl. The pattern will be published on June 5, so you have more time to prepare yourself and the yarn you want to knit your pattern with than last time. We even had enough time to have special color kits dyed up that look like the unnamed stashed yarn Casapinka used for hers! Our kits are made by Sarah and Matt of Less Traveled Yarn and include one skein each of the special collaboration colors Peachy Keen and Jelly Bean on her superwash merino/nylon 757 sock yarn. I expect these kits to arrive in about 7 days, but I'll be taking preorders starting today. That way as soon as the yarn arrives here, we can automatically ship it out to you. This picture shows the yarn along with Casapinka's sample from her unknown stash yarn, and I'm betting you can see that Sarah did a great job getting the color idea right. Of course, there are always slight differences in skeins of hand dyed yarn, but yours is sure to be beautiful, no doubt. it's super hard to photograph hot pink- if there are any kits left after presales, I'll take a photo here to show the colors off even better.
Again, this is a preorder for the yarn that will ship out from here in approx 7 days (you'll get tracking as usual or make sure you create or log into your account so you can check for tracking). I'm also taking preorders for the new Tiger Sock sets that sold out fast too, if that's of interest. Those will arrive in 7-14 days. You can add anything else you want to these preorders and we'll just hold the additional items until everything is here and ship it all together.
Here are a few color ideas for you to get started in Madelinetosh, if you want to get your yarn now or want another color idea. I'll continue blogging color ideas here and there too. You need two skeins of fingering weight yarn, approx 400 yards each in two different colors that contrast enough for the pattern to show up. If you like one of these, just place your order online asap before these colors are gone. If you want something else, please feel free to e-mail me, Allison, as usual for help at [email protected]. I'm always happy to tell you if your colors look good together in person, if they provide enough contrast for the pattern to show up, or help you find a second skein to go with one that you love. Keep in mind that to qualify to get the pattern code for free you do have to order two skeins of fingering weight yarn in one order. DK and single skeins don't qualify and I will follow Casapinka's rules for doling out pattern codes so I don't get a hand slap all the way from Rhode Island. Of course, if you already have skeins, you can simply purchase the pattern from her on June 5 when it goes live. She would love that support, I'm sure. Or go here and purchase another one of her awesome patterns to show your love and I'll help you choose colors! Sadly, Casapinka was supposed to be at the shop this past weekend helping me celebrate our 15th Yarniversary with events and frivolity. I'd be putting her back on a plane right about now if it all worked out (tiny sobs). But it didn't and now I must console myself with all the yarn fumes.
In all the pictures below, I've shown several skeins just b/c I wanted to. You still need just ONE skein of two different colors. You don't need the amount I've shown in the photos- I simply like the way the yarn fills the frame better with more skeins in the picture and I think sometimes it's helpful to see several skeins of hand dyed yarn so you can see how different they can look, as each skein is unique.
Shown below are all Tosh Sock and I also have Tosh Merino Light and Twist Light for many of these if you prefer those fingering weight bases.
Above is a striking combo Vermilion and Soot - I love those little specks of color hidden in the black of Soot.
Above are Margeaux and Georgia O'Keefe - both formerly retired and back! Retired color Foxglove is back and looks stunning with Composition Book Gray
Want springy but in a mod way? How about above, Mala and Scout or below A Clue Board with Porcelain. I keep thinking the later is my fave but then I go back to the former..... both are just so great. For this too
Above, Eleven Lite with Eleven Dark. Below, a Florida-getaway type of combo with Lepidoptera and Mermaids Unite.
Above, completely wearable combo of Leaf Fall (one of our faves here) with Tart. Below is Lepidoptera with Mercantile. WOWZA, right??
Please keep in mind that if you order today (or tomorrow or next week) you won't get a pattern code from me until June 5 and it will need to be redeemed by June 7 (extended to June 14) at midnight when it expires. So please don't e-mail asking "where's my code?!! I want to get started!" Because you can't until the pattern comes out on June 5. At least that's what I've been told. If that changes, of course I'll get it to you sooner.
And about the pattern, Casapinka says "It has the same shape and requirements as the Breathe and Hope shawl and will be released June 5. This is a great beginner shawl and will have a linked video to show you how to change colors, carry your colors, slip stitches and block it into shape." There's no brioche or intricate colorwork, just simple stuff and slipped stitches to create the look.
Your color combinations are gorgeous! I really appreciate the time and effort you put in to help us!
