Now's not a great time to try and import non-essential goods, as I'm betting you can imagine. While we knitters consider our yarn to be essential, the mills have shut down for the most part, distributors have postponed shipping/receiving for the most part and the only ones really operating as usual are small businesses and dyers that do the work all themselves. Thankfully, Irish dyer Caroline of Life in the Long Grass sent this yarn on its way to us about a month ago, so before all the lock downs happened, and most of it got through Customs before things were really delayed. We still have several boxes stuck, but we DO have some awesomeness from Ireland to share today!
I'm quite in love with Tidepool. It seems like a romantic, dusky watercolor on the skein, especially on Singles.
At top it's shown on Singles and in my grandmother's bowl that I inherited, it's in DK. Apparently I get easily distracted and photograph yarn in bowls b/c I also took a snapshot of another amazing color, Stone Collector, in a bowl. I'm an odd bird, this I know.
Here is Stone Collector on Singles, DK and Sock.
If you're in the mood to treat yourself to a skein that's 50% silk, take a look at some of the new hues I have in Silk Merino. This yarn has amazing texture, sheen and drape and is wonderful for a special project.
While I'm particularly fond of this yarn on deeper shades like Harbor and Cauldron above, I think there are some amazing spring hues like Ocean Flight, Aquarium and Pressed Flowers.
This may be the only Irish yarn we are getting for awhile. Hedgehog Fibres is closed and I haven't heard about a reopening date yet. And importing is proving to be more tricky than ever, so we won't be getting anything from Germany, UK or Australia either until that's more predictable. I do hope to be able to get Canadian goods from Mineville Wool Project and Flock Fibre next month. But we'll just have to see what happens in Customs. Fingers crossed.
I couldn't help taking a close up of Caroline's attention to detail in speckles. Look at the tiny micro speckles on Singles in Story Teller. Isn't this just gorgeous?
*Just a reminder that I'm committed to blogging every day during this time (instead of the typical 2-3 times a week) to connect with others. Please do comment and share with me here if you like! You'll see the typical yarn updates and shop tidbits, but likely also a bit more family and personal stuff.
