I have a new yarn to share with you, Work Sock Sport by Madelinetosh, and I'm offering it this week for a special price. This retails at $37 but this week I'll have it for you for just $31 a skein, which is a great deal for a double sized skein that could easily go for $48 like Yowza DK does.
If you're a fan of Twist Light, which is their merino/nylon sock weight yarn, I think you'll really appreciate this heavier weight version of Work Sock. It's durable, super soft, the colors are fab as always.... and the best part? The skein size. Instead of a typical 100g or 4 ounce skein, this one is a whopping 202 grams and 400 yards. So it's plenty for a really large pair of socks and the yardage is also fab for sweaters and shawls and larger project.
I'm knitting up Wash House and Farmhouse White into a Kline Shawl right now. The pattern calls for fingering weight Tosh, but I'm really liking DK weight shawls right now not only because they keep me warmer, but because they knit up quicker and into a bigger size overall. So I went up to a US 8 needle instead of the 6 that the pattern calls for. And if I see that I'm running short on yarn, I'll simply take out a repeat of the stripe.
Want to do that same as me? Or perhaps want to combine two colors into another pattern? Here are the other duos that caught my eye as I was photographing the skeins.
If you want us to help you build something for your particular project, we are always happy to help via e-mail at [email protected]. I don't recommend waiting too long to get your skeins though, as I'm betting at this great price some colors will sell fast.... in fact, I just checked our inventory before 8am and already several colors sold out. Dang.
*Just a reminder that I'm committed to blogging every day during this time (instead of the typical 2-3 times a week) to connect with others. Please do comment and share with me here if you like! You'll see the typical yarn updates and shop tidbits, but likely also a bit more family and personal stuff.

At 400 yards per 200 grams, that seems like worsted weight. How does it knit up? Does it seem more worsted, or is it really a sport weight knit?

Hi Jessica,
I had the same questions about the weight, but on Tosh's yarn chart, they list it in the Sport weight category as a 4ply that knits up as 6sts=1" on a US 3-5. So I'm thinking that is for socks, b/c you
want a nice dense fabric that will hold up to wear. But on Ravelry it looks like for garments people are knitting it much for DK weight things.
I'm knitting it myself right now and I think that for socks I'd knit a US 3 or 4.

Peach Tree shawl by Sylvia McFadden looks like a great pattern for Work Sock as well.
