I'm happy to share that we've brought Skein Yarn back into the fold!
Yep, you read that right, the beautiful skeins from Kristen in Australia are back here in the US again and at SSYC! Kristen and Paul, the married couple behind Skein Yarn, have ramped up production a bit again so they can sell to us and make it much easier to find their yarns in the US. I'm super happy to welcome them back and this time we are offering their most popular base Top Draw Sock and we will soon also have a DK. Yay!
Shown above in Pixelation and below in Nori on Top Draw Sock
I asked Kristen and take a moment to answer a few questions for us and she was happy to oblige. And she took a couple candid shots to share too.
Allison @ SSYC: What’s the name Top Draw sock mean?
Kristen: I often get asked this question. Some people think it's spelled incorrectly (Top Drawer) but it actually means 'popular': a major draw. Since it has long been our most sought-after yarn base, it has fittingly lived up to its name.
SSYC: What’s your fave thing about what you do?
Kristen: I love to develop colourways. I really look forward to getting the dyes out and just experimenting with colour and technique.
SSYC: And the least favorite thing?
Kristen: That's easy. Bookkeeping, I hate it!
SSYC: Is it just you and your husband that works for Skein? Or is there any one else you rely on too?
Kristen: It's just us (for now!). Paul handles all the orders and shipping and I do the dyeing and photographs. Our studio space is split up into four areas: I'm usually out in the dye room or in my office, and Paul is stationed in the shipping room or his office. Even though we are working together, we don't usually see much of each other (which might be a good thing, haha). We also work very differently: Paul loves music playing, while I like to work in silence, so it's good that we both have our own space.
SSYC: What did you and your husband do before starting Skein?
Kristen: I was a Registered Nurse and Midwife and Paul was an academic.
SSYC; What’s your favorite thing to knit?
Kristen: I love sweaters. They are my favorite things to knit, especially if they have an interesting stitch pattern or colourwork.
Skein is setting up a small shop at the front of their studio (top picture) in 2020.... yet another reason I'd love to be able to visit Australia. The second photo above is Kristen saying hello to us!
I do hope you all love seeing Skein's skeins (I had to....) back in the shop. It's been years since we've been able to offer them to you and I love seeing them again.
As you can see, our shop's "stash" keeps growing and growing. We can only grow up the walls from here and I look forward to sharing what else we have to share soon!
I remember when you had Skein several yeas ago. I thought they were the most beautiful colors I had ever seen, butt they were a little pricey for me then. This time, I plan to limit purchases to just Skein so I can collect quite a few colors. So happy this yarn is back!

I once knit a skein of Nori and I LOVED IT SO MUCH. I’ve been looking for this sock ever since. I’m excited to order some and trust those making it but the Nori color now looks different. Do you know if they are trying to stick with similar color combos as before?
