On the Fourth Day of Sock Yarn, Simply Sock Yarn gave to me...
my very own Hot Chocolate Knit Kit!
If you'd like a chance at winning this package featuring Swift Yarn Singles in Jewel Thief, tasty hot cocoas, snowflake marshmallows, snowflake stitch markers and a felted ornament, answer the following question in the comments below:
What holiday movie or song always puts you in the celebrating mood? Is Michael Buble your thing? Do you enjoy laughing with your kids to Christmas Vacation? Do share with us something that you and yours really enjoy watching or listening to each year. Perhaps you'll introduce someone to something new!
For me, it's the movie White Christmas. This year, my Love and I actually had a child-free date night and dressed up, went to a fancy dinner and watched a local production of the musical. It was a really cool way to start the season right. Rather that sitting on the couch in our comfy Christmas pj's (which is great too) we instead dressed in our best and made a big night out of it.
Leave me one comment below before 8am tomorrow and you'll be entered to win in today's contest. Please be as specific as you like, as I know many of us find inspiration for our knitting and our lives in what you share. Want to know more about the 12 Days of Sock Yarn? See here.
You are helping me to get in the Christmas mood. Also my JL Advent calendar. Just talking about Christmas cookies!
I love the color of that yarn.

I have to watch Its a Wonderful Life, its a movie I've watched every season since childhood. We also watch the Santa Clause trilogy for that holiday laughter. We are putting up our Christmas tree this weekend and we listen to Trans Siberian Orchestra while decorating.

I have to watch "The Grinch" every year...the original cartoon version :)
Posted by: Diana | December 07, 2017 at 08:31 AM
Awww, as I was reading your post I was just thinking, "White Christmas" is one of my all time favorite movies and then you said it was your Christmas movie! I couldn't bring myself to see the live production. Those original actors are such a part of that movie. I have a soft spot for "Fitzwilly" too. And, of course, "The Andy Griffith Show" Christmas episode really says Christmas to me. Ooops, forgot about the "Charlie Brown Christmas" except it always makes me cry!

It doesn't seem like Christmas until my husband and I hear Christmas Rappin' by the Waitresses...together. I've heard it this year, but we haven't heard it together so that doesn't count! We'll remedy that this weekend!
Posted by: Carolyn | December 07, 2017 at 08:33 AM
My favorite Christmas movie is Miracle on 34th Street. I absolutely love it! I love many Christmas songs, but one of my favorites is Mary, Have You Heard. So beautiful!

Two songs trigger my Christmas spirit: Bing Cosby’s White Christmas and Elvis’ Blue Christmas. As far as movies...Love Actually. My daughter and I watch it on Christmas Eve day while the boys wrap presents.

Posted by: Joanne | December 07, 2017 at 08:40 AM
After Thanksgiving the first thing that I listen to is Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas from Kenny G's Miracles cd. It's a good cocoa drinking song. Next favorite would be tv's Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer which I've watched nearly every year since it first came out...it's tradition.

We have so many Christmas movies that we start watching them, nightly, Thanksgiving night. We always start off with Christmas Vacation, but our favorites are White Christmas, Miracle on 49th Street, Elf, and a few others. Pentatonix and Josh Groban always get me in the Christmas mood while driving around!

Posted by: Bonnie Davis | December 07, 2017 at 08:43 AM
Love Actually is the movie I watch to the Christmas spirit going. But what makes it “official” for me is watching TCM and catching holiday movies from the 50s and 60s while I stay up and wrap presents.
O Holy Night is my favorite traditional Christmas song. And I LOVE the early Now That’s What I Call Christmas compilations.
Posted by: staci | December 07, 2017 at 08:44 AM
Last night I went to the Trans Siberian Orchestra concert and WOW! This may become my new Christmas tradition. In addition, I love the song “Mary Did You Know?” and start singing that as soon as the season arrives.

Cary Grant and The Bishop’s Wife. I love that movie but, to be honest, any and all Hallmark movies. Wonderful!

I really need to see snow before I get into the spirit. We always decorate the tree listening to The Messiah, watch “It’s a WonderfulLife” and other Christmas movies, It hasn’t snowed here in southern NH yet, though, so we will probably fire up the vcr and snuggle up this weekend with “White Christmas.”

Posted by: Anna Marie | December 07, 2017 at 08:54 AM
One of my favorite Christmas movies is Holiday Inn, with Bing Crosby and Fred Astaire. It was the movie that introduced the song White Christmas. The music is great - there are some parts that are very 'of the era'- but it just a fun Christmas movie.
I have about six CD's that I play while I'm baking and reading and knitting so picking one favorite song is very hard. From Thanksgiving to New Year's Eve, it's all Christmas all the time.
Posted by: amy g | December 07, 2017 at 08:55 AM
We love to see Trans Siberian Orchestra each year. It's one show that always puts me in the Christmas spirit. My favorite part is when it snows on the audience.....just magical.

My dad and I are obsessed with Christmas! Every year we put on our local Christmas radio station right after thanksgiving dinner and sing and dance and laugh. Dad and I share a really funny memory of a middle school performance of the song I’ll be home for Christmas that my brother performed and that has turned into our all time favorite. We’ll be sitting around and as soon as the song comes on we’ll sing at the top of our lungs and with over exaggerated motions we’ll embarrass my brother. Our family through the years has come to expect our hilarious performance. It’s something special that I love getting to share with my dad.

Our Christmas viewing tradition is "It's a Wonderful Life" on Christmas eve, followed by Ralphie in his pink bunny suit in "Christmas Story" on Christmas day .... oh and the "Godfather" seems to always be on, since nothing says Christmas like family!

I’m excited every year when the local radio station switches to all Christmas music. We have a radio in our horse barn and I’m so happy when I walk out there and discover that. I enjoy the older versions of the songs. Our daughter is 17 now, but when she was very little, “Santa Baby” came on the radio. My daughter looked at me and said, “Heetah not a baby!” Great memory! 😊

I’m currently very far from home. I’m serving as a peace corps volunteer in the republic of Georgia (think Russia...not the state Georgia) and this is my first Christmas I will spend away from my family. Not a single soul speaks Spanish here, everyone speaks Georgian, Russian, or Romani (a dialect for the local gypsies here), so when I went into my local bookstore/cafe to grab a coffee I overheard them playing “Feliz Navidad”. I was so taken by surprise that I had the biggest smile on my face and every Georgian looking at me like I was a lunatic as I sang along with it. Feliz navidad was always one of my favorite holidays songs and hearing Spanish again in a country thousands of miles from sunny Southern California, had me a little choked up when it was playing. Something as simple as a holiday song can definitely lift ones spirits when you’re away from the ones you miss and love so much.
