Thanks so much for your kind comments and e-mails about the store's Grand Opening on Saturday! I had hoped to find a few moments to update the Facebook page, but I was having such a nice time visiting and helping everyone find great yarn that I didn't find a minute until we were nearly closed for the day. If you'd like to see a few snapshots from Saturday, take a look at the SSYC Facebook page.
But I think that most of you are here to get news of the Grand Opening Sock Kit, aren't you? It's now available in the store. If you see it sell out today, that's because much of it is hand made/desined and thus only available in limited quantities.
Want to know the details of this special kit? Veronica at Dream in Color created the Rapunzel Rose colorway on Smooshy to mimic the tones of our new home's post office tile from the 40's. I'd call this a neutral-ish colorway- wheat, pale mustard, and very pale olive and terra cotta accent this skein and give the finished knit fabric a dappled look. Jeannie Cartmel designed the Terra Tile Sock pattern, a top-down design that got it's imspiration from the offset brick pattern of the way the tiles were laid.
I have a few fun accents for you as well! A medium sized project bag from Baggu in a lively polka dot- I'm using one to carry James' and my lunches to the store right now. It's made of rip stop nylon and will hold up to 30 pounds. And it can be folded into a tiny little square so you can tuck it into your purse. Soak has sent 2 oz tubs of their Heel Cream in the peppermint scent- something to pamper our feet at night before we slip on our hand knit socks, and wake up with soft skin. And Knit Happy has put together a little booklet of their lint sticky pages so that we can de-lint our black pants (at least that's when I notice yarn lint the most) before walking out of the door/off the train in the morning. At the Grand Opening on Saturday, someone noted that these would also be great for taking the cat hair off her pants and her project.
All these items are included in the kit, and you can find it here until it sells out. As many of you already know, I do have a large quantity of these at the beginning of the day, but previous kits have sold in less than a day, so if you really want one, I recommend getting it sooner rather that later. Please also give me a few extra days for shipment, as this is a very busy time for us.
It was worth the wait! Your store is fabulous and I adore all the natural light! I only wish I wasn't 2 hours away! Best of luck with this new adventure!

Glad to see that you are using baggu bags; a great product and the company's many offerings are perfect for all knitting projects. A plus - the bags are washable. You have put together a great project, down to the list dot.

Hi Allison! I loved meeting you on Saturday -- your store is fabulous -- I'm so excited about it! Thanks for helping me pick out yarn when you were so busy. I did a little post about your shop tonight -- thanks for letting me take some pictures. Now...I must get to work on my current socks so I can get to those sheepie socks!

Loved the store with all the original things you kept. Could you really ask for better windows and light? It was destined to be a yarn store in it's second life. Working on the Zombie BBQ socks and hope Natalie and can do a KAL with the kit yarn. So glad to have finally met you.
