If you've been waiting to find the yarn I blogged about earlier... the one that I'm now obsessed with... the wait is over. But please leave some for me! It's Tanis Fiber Arts, and the skein that I wrote about is from the Purple Label collection, which is a 20% cashmere blend. But if you want a merino/nylon blend, I also have Tanis' Blue Label collection. And at $22 a skein, it's not only lovely, but on the lower end of the cost spectrum for such a generous skein of hand dyed merino/nylon yarn.
I will have a min-interview with Tanis in a few days, but right now I want your help with something. See, I've convinced Tanis to dye up the skein for the store's upcoming Valentine's Day kit, and I need you to help me with a name. So I'm breaking with tradition and showing you the skein a few weeks early. The inspiration for the skein came from a beautiful pink-flecked granite that I had spied, and I think a lovely job was done creating this colorway. I'm knitting it up now and it knits up almost like a semi-solid; but instead of white peaking through the pale gray, it's instead pink. A very cool effect.
When you see this skein, what name comes to mind?
lonesome dove
(because some people are lonely on Valentines Day, and yarn is a good companion)

This colorway immediately reminded me of a granite that outcrops in the Front Range of the Rockies called the Silver Plume granite. It has large chunks of pinkish/purple feldspar and megacrystals of silver mica. I guess you could name it Silver Plume.

Reminds me of the sky in the morning sometimes. My choice would be Pink Dawn.

What great names above. I like Cherry Blossom Haze! Haze for the smoky overall color and cherry blossom for the pink that is seen through the haze.

Maybe not very romantic, but my first impression was of a cute furry animal ..... how about Little Mouse?
Posted by: Sue | December 29, 2010 at 10:55 AM
It reminds me of delicate woodland flowers like the pink lady slippers or maybe wild geranium

Dawn. The pink reminds me of how the sky looks when it begins to get light in the morning. It's lovely!

Heart and Soul....reminds me of a calm and happy place

Being a Rocky Mountain resident, I second the "Silver Plume" suggestion. It's perfect!

It reminds me of a beautiful pink rhyolite I sampled as a student in Australia. The prettiest one, from my perspective, was the Beryl Creek Rhyolite. What about Beryl?

I'll post next week the 12 winners. Til then, keep these names coming! All great ideas!

I think "Pink Lady" fits this colorway perfectly. We (ladies) blush and we can be blue sometimes. Hopefully we are blushing more than blue!!

"Dusk." Where I live when the sun gets ready to set the sky turns a soft gray color and the pinks peek through the clouds. I love these colors. Beautiful!

Reminds me of one of those rare pink sky mornings in San Francisco, so my name would be Morning Fog.

Promise of Spring - color peeking through the clouds.

Rock Dove, which is the little used common name of the common pigeon. The color reminds me of the gray feathers that can have a pink sheen to them. And I like the idea of finding beauty in something most people consider commonplace.

Well, knowing that the inspiration came from granite, I'd call it Tough Love!

I second April's Mourning Dove. That fits the mostly gray with just a hint of softness in the pink perfectly. Mourning doves are gray but such gentle beautiful creatures.

My thought is December Love. The grey reminding me of an older hair color with a faint pink complexion. Or maybe December romance. The younger knitters may not realize that they use to refer to older women as being in their December years.

Peek a Boo Passion: I like the thought of a hidden pink passion peeking through the grey. Sort of like the passion that remains in true love; sometimes hidden by the "grey" of winter, life and trials, yet always there waiting to work its way to peek through! Yes, I am a true romantic! Plus I love this color and appreciate that it is NOT red. Don'te get me wrong I LOVE red, but it is nice to see a non-traditional valentine color :-)
