Has it been a whirlwind week for you too? There's something about this time of year that knocks the wind out of me while pulling me in several opposing directions. There's this constant battle going on in my brain. "I need to work, no, let's dance around the kitchen to Christmas music, no, I need to get this yarn out the door, but sitting down to a cup of coffee first can't hurt, can it? But Netflix just delivered Season 2 of Gilmore Girls and James is napping! No, let's first get the yarn out the door. But when can it knit?!?"
In addition to the crazy nature of Retail this time of year, I also have all the typical holiday items to complete on my "mental checklist." Cut down tree (unchecked). Make cookies (unchecked). Make cards (unchecked). Make cookies (unchecked). Decorate (unchecked). Buy gifts (unchecked). Notice a theme here? I've done virtually nothing to prepare my household for the holiday season. The one thing I have done is design a holiday jazz music station for myself on Pandora so that I can dance around and sing while getting everything done. It's like a one-person showchoir around here, complete with jazz hands and hip wiggles. So at least I'm having a great time while I'm running around like a crazy lady!
This weekend will likely be work-free (oh, who am I kidding?) as I'm taking some time to drive to Indy and shop with friends. I hope to get gifts purchased, but because there's a Crate and Barrel and Restoration Hardware and a cool yarn store I haven't visited yet, so I don't know that I'll accomplish that. I'll be happy just finding a few things for myself. The holiday party season begins, so we have a few of those this weekend. One is rather large and will have trains, santa, moon bounces and all sorts of fun things, so I hope to have some cute James pictures to share.
What are your plans for this first weekend in December?
Tomorrow we head out to the Virginia countryside to visit a tree farm and Sunday is our annual tree-trimming party. I'm starting to get excited!
Have a great time with your friends. You certainly deserve some you time!

Tomorrow evening we have an opera to go to (thankfully - the orchestra strike was settled today) & Sunday we will go visit my sister in the hospital. Any in between time will be spent knitting DK socks for my Calif daughter (their house is unbelievably chilly in the evenings esp) & sewing fleece jammies & rag quilts for the grands. And, at some point, I'll have to buy more Xmas presents.

Have to work Saturday, will knit before and after work (gift knitting), we're supposed to get snow showers Sat. afternoon but no more than an inch of snow. Concert at a church Sunday, will maybe bake brownies. We don't give gifts anymore - we decided last year to go places and make memories and we loved every bit of it - put the photos in a memory album, We pared down the holiday things we do - and make it as stress free as we can. Make it more about each other than gifts.

Tomorrow my nephews come over for a Santa Brunch at a local golf club. They have all kinds of stations for the kids with face painting, balloons, etc.

Enjoying Gaylord Opryland Nashville with friends, best time of year to be here. My husband is as crazy about Christmas decorations as I am about yarn
