« Help Make it Right- The House That Yarn Built | Main | No Clapotis, Now Lace Ribbon Scarf »

April 23, 2008

Ooh, I can't wait to see your silk ribbon scarf! It was definitely my fav pattern in this Knitty. How many skeins of the FA did it take?

It took 1.5 skeins of Casbah

No you aren't out of the loop on that fake wicker crap. Fake wicker? Why don't they have the balls to call it what it is; plastic molded to look like wicker.

I ended up spending around $3000.00 and getting a hand made bend willow set from a craftsman out in Ohio. Love seat, 2 chairs and 2 end tables. My front porch looks awsom and I have a lovely new heirloom. Definately worth the money.

There is a wicker outlet in southern Michigan. I think Hillsdale. I am not sure. They have some prices and if you can wait a big sale in August I think.

The more I see that scarf the more I like it - I'll have to put it on my list of halfpints. I went shopping at the mall with my daughter & granddaughter Saturday & passed through Crate & Barrel. I picked up a catalog of their outdoor furniture. Eeeeek! They had a nice table with 6 chairs that cost $2500. That's roughly as much as we just paid for our new dining room table & 6 chairs which we use everyday. I can't see spending the same amount on something that'll get used maybe 20 times a year (if that) & would be kept outside subject to theft.

Have you checked out They carry some patio/lawn furniture. Often it's "last year's styles" but the prices can be quite nice (and the shipping is definitely affordable).

Know why everything's so expensive? It's the season. If you at all can, wait until the fall, when it starts to get chilly and people are thinking about raking leaves and making pumpkin pie. That's when all the patio and porch furniture will go on sale. Or check out close out stores. I can't remember where I got mine, but I know I only bought the one rocking chair, and it's the fake wicker stuff, and it's held up fantastic. If you must have something now, just get the one thing, or 2 so you and hubby can sit out there. Use an indoor table or something for now, then wait until all the stuff isn't in such high demand.

Maybe Ikea has something? I know it's not super-close, but there is one in Schaumburg, IL. I don't know how far that is from you, but it's about three hours from Purdue and four hours from Bloomington, if I remember correctly. I agree that it's the season.

You could always find a free couch that someone is getting rid of and put that outside. Sure, it'll get ruined by the elements, but it will serve you until you can get some good stuff. Right?

Wait until Target puts their furniture on clearance around the 4th of July. Last year I was able to buy faux wicker furniture, loveseat, 2 chairs with cushions and a glass-topped coffee table for around $400. It was 30% off. Right now you're paying full price but if you wait too long for the sale prices the selection will be meager.

The faux wicker is nice and very low maintenance. If you can't bring the furniture inside for the winter, invest in good quality furniture covers.

Love your blog and your store. I had to speak up when I saw your comment on NE Indiana. I am coming to Angola this weekend to see my son graduate from TriState and I am hoping the weather stays nice! But if not, I will have my sock project with me! Thanks for the great blog.

You are not crazy, outdoor furniture can be really expensive, especially wicker. You may want to take a look at other types of resin furniture that mimic wicker to create the look you want at a more affordable price.
