As much as I'd like to be watching E! True Hollywood Story Investigates the Curse of the Lottery, I've got work to do. Okay. Let's not pretend... I'm watching it as I type this. How can I not?? It's just like a train wreck! Like the first season of the Anne Nicole Smith Show, you can't NOT watch it.
Oh, stop judging me.
So if you have been stalking the store, you'll see that 25 different solids and multicolors of Alpaca Sox are now available. I haven't carried an alpaca sock yarn yet because I hadn't found one that I liked. Alpaca alone just doesn't hold up to heavy wear, but Classic Elite has combined a very soft alpaca with wool and nylon to create a warm, fuzzy sock yarn that holds up to wear. If Joe hadn't already convinced me to knit a pair of socks for him, I'd already have some on the needles for myself. And if tasty yarn isn't enough, the price is very good- under $20 a skein (each skein makes a pair of socks). Below are the three colors I like the best: Dandelion, Dusk and Garden
More Trekking has arrived, bringing more of the colors that came in a couple weeks ago, plus five new ones. Joe already picked out a color he liked, and I'm about an inch into a simple 2x2 rib for him. It's color 69, and it's not nearly as boring as the colors Joe usually picks out for his socks. There's only so long you can knit straight stockinette in a tiny fingering weight black yarn before you want to plunge your DPs into your eyes to make the monotony stop.
Like I mentioned earlier this week, Cherry Tree Hill has come out with a new color, Cherry Blossom. It's quite a dainty color, don't you think? I'm not sure how long they will be dyeing this color, as the term "limited run" was used to describe it. So I'll keep ordering it for as long as I can.
And finally, you'll find lots of Opal yarn 40% off- these are collections that are from earlier this year and I'm passing the discount right on to you. I'll keep ordering these as long as they are available. Visit the Sock Yarn page list to see the ones marked 40% off.
Oh, you're hanging on for the contest, huh? Tell me what your favorite Halloween candy is, and you could win this super cool "Betty" needle case courtesy of Lexie Barnes (don't forget to check out the new Mini bags I have for you). Leave your comment below before November 8 at midnight. One entry per person. I'll announce the winner here after the 8th, so check back to see if you won this cool case.
And if anyone has some extra Kit Kat bars lying around, you know where to send 'em. James LOVES Kit Kat, don't you know.
Definately Candy Corn Pumpkins would win out as all time fave!
Posted by: Sandi | November 01, 2007 at 02:06 PM
While Opal isn't my favorite yarn, those prices are too good to pass up. Thanks!
My favorite Halloween candy is . . mini Milky Ways.
Posted by: Judy L. | November 01, 2007 at 02:11 PM
If I had to pick just one, it would be Reese's Peanut Butter Cups!
Posted by: Penny | November 01, 2007 at 02:18 PM
Pick just *one* favorite Halloween candy?!? Impossible. But if pressed, I would have to choose classic candy corn. Candy corn says "Halloween" in each bite of insulin-jolting corn syrup. Just thinking about it makes my heart race!

If I had to pick just one, it would be Reese's Peanut Butter Cups!
Posted by: Penny | November 01, 2007 at 02:19 PM
My fav is what we gave out this year, GIANT PIXIE STIX! They're fun, retro and pure sugar. It also seems I wasn't alone, lots of parents we're swallowing their pride and asking "can I have one too". There were also a couple of "I love you"s and one marriage proposal (although that may have been a combination of a redhead with giant pixie stix and a mint 79 thunderbird parked in the yard). OK I thought it was charming, hubby was mad, not about someone wanting me and pixie stix, about someone lusting after his car.
Posted by: Kelley | November 01, 2007 at 02:32 PM
My favorite Halloween candy is the "adult" stuff we hand out to our friends when they bring their costumed kids by the house: Michel Cluizel 5 gram French Chocolate bars. The Mangaro Milk Chocolate makes me swoon. Mmm. Must show restraint, must not turn the porch light off and eat them all by myself . . .
Posted by: Kathryn in Minnesota | November 01, 2007 at 02:47 PM
Who doesn't love them - Reese's Peanut Butter cups! I swear they used to taste a little different though when they came in the paper wrappers instead of the plastic ones they come in now.
Posted by: Erin | November 01, 2007 at 03:03 PM
Without a doubt, Reese's Peanut Butter Cups! Hands down!
Posted by: Leah | November 01, 2007 at 03:33 PM
While I usually say anything chocolate, when Halloween comes around, I want Smarties. I still have a bag of them sitting on the table, but they won't last long.
Posted by: Debby | November 01, 2007 at 04:28 PM
Mmm... all those new yarns look so yummy.
My number one favorite Halloween candy is Smarties. I can go through an entire bag of those....
Posted by: Janis | November 01, 2007 at 05:16 PM
I love Hershey's with or without almonds, Halloween and year-round!
Posted by: Angela | November 01, 2007 at 06:13 PM
My favorite is Candy Corn, as well as those little pumpkins that are a variation on Candy Corn. My son only got one little packet of candy corn last night--and he gave them to mom!
Posted by: Deb | November 01, 2007 at 06:18 PM
Favorite candy to give away? That would be the Haribo gummy bears I gave out...every single kid was excited to get them! But my favorite to eat, because I never get them any other time of the year are the little Mounds bars! Beautiful yarns....
Posted by: Carolyn | November 01, 2007 at 06:49 PM
I'm having a hard time resisting the siren call of the Almond Joys in the hallway. We had *no* trick-or-treaters last night, so their melodious but deadly song is quite loud.
Posted by: sprite | November 01, 2007 at 07:11 PM
My favorite takes a bit of patience - frozen Milky Ways.
Posted by: CC | November 01, 2007 at 07:47 PM
That's the cutest skeleton I've ever seen! I really love Milky Ways. Somehow I managed to end up not giving all of those away to the kiddies last night...
Posted by: Beth | November 01, 2007 at 07:58 PM
Candy corn, every time, is my favorite. I have to admit, when I buy a huge bag of it, I eat it until I'm sick ... even knowing I'm going to be ill doesn't stop me. How sick is that?
Posted by: Marti Johnson (aka Sock Queen) | November 01, 2007 at 08:15 PM
Resses Peanut Butter Cups!!!!!!!!!!
Posted by: Mary | November 01, 2007 at 08:17 PM
I can't believe no one has mentioned Twix Bars!
Posted by: Julie | November 01, 2007 at 08:42 PM
Definitely candy corn, because it brings back childhood Halloween memories and because you can't find it in France anywhere!
Posted by: Sandra | November 01, 2007 at 08:43 PM
That Cherry Tree Hill is sooo pretty. The skeleton is so cute! My favorite Halloween candy is Butterfingers. Yes, I did dig through my kids' bags and snagged a few.
Posted by: Jeannie | November 01, 2007 at 08:46 PM
Three Musketeers all the way!
Posted by: yarnlibrarian | November 01, 2007 at 08:50 PM
Old fashion "DOTS". They stick your teeth a little but reminds of going to the movies when I was a kid!
Posted by: Susan | November 01, 2007 at 08:57 PM
Most of the stuff my kids came home with last night was the same as you can buy all year round ... but in bit size version. So in keeping with a true Hallowe'en candy theme - my fav would be caramel apples!
Posted by: Dawne | November 01, 2007 at 09:14 PM
Sugar-free chocolate, I don't eat sugar so that leaves most of the good stuff out.
Posted by: Rita | November 01, 2007 at 09:22 PM
Mounds for me, and yay my kids don't like coconut. I don't even have to ask, they just reject them and guess who eats them all...hehe!
Posted by: Lisa | November 01, 2007 at 09:26 PM
Ok, where is the cherry blossom on your site? My favorite halloween candy is not really candy. It is popcorn balls.
Posted by: jgtck | November 01, 2007 at 09:30 PM
You mean I can only pick one favourite? My all-time favourite would have to be Coffee Crisp, which is a Canadian chocolate bar that tastes like, um, coffee, but down here in the States I'd have to say Milky Ways. =)
Posted by: Adrienne | November 01, 2007 at 09:44 PM
3 Musketeers! Chocolatey, low(er) in fat, and they don't upset my stomach. (And we only have 3 left. Woe.)
Posted by: Jaimi | November 01, 2007 at 10:14 PM
Cherry Blasters are my favourite Halloween Candy.
Posted by: Rita | November 01, 2007 at 10:52 PM
My favorite Halloween candy is "snickers bars"...Our Jack Russell terrier is named Snickers also!!!
Posted by: Char | November 01, 2007 at 11:00 PM
Hmmm...it's a tie between Nerds and Reese's Peanut Butter cups...the full size ones...not the little ones as they have too much chocolate and not enough peanut butter. :)
Posted by: Melissa McKelvey | November 02, 2007 at 12:29 AM
I cannot find my favorite Halloween Candy anymore.(boohoo)
They were called "Broomsticks" & they were banana flavored taffy wrapped in yellow waxed paper (kinda like how medium-sized tootsie rolls are wrapped). I haven't seen them in years, but it definitely brings back fond memories of Mom making us cover up our costumes with our winter jackets because it was WAY too cold outside in Iowa the end of October for JUST the costume. Sigh.
Posted by: Stephanie Miller | November 02, 2007 at 02:23 AM
I love Caramel Apple Pops. Sweet and sour, and they last a long time, which spreads the calories out.
Posted by: Suna | November 02, 2007 at 08:07 AM
Peanut butter bars! That's my all-time favorite. I can only find them around Halloween anymore so I stock up.
Posted by: Lois | November 02, 2007 at 08:09 AM
candy corn. is there any other halloween candy? i wasn't aware.

Candy corn is my most favorite Halloween candy. Love that sugar high!
Posted by: Ruth | November 02, 2007 at 10:46 AM
I love, love, love basic, old-fashioned candy corn. Mix it with dry-roasted peanuts, and it's even better!
Posted by: SpaceCase | November 02, 2007 at 10:46 AM
I'd have to go with Bit-O-Honeys.. Never buy them but raid my children's candy for them. Honest, they don't like them. I LOVE them..
Posted by: Natalie | November 02, 2007 at 10:47 AM
Hmm... This year reminded me -- Butterfinger minis... Though I did have a hard time keeping my hands away from the licorice...
Posted by: Christene | November 02, 2007 at 10:47 AM
Definitely Butter Fingers!
Posted by: Lisa L. | November 02, 2007 at 10:48 AM
I always loved Mary Janes, they were hard on your teeth and almost impossible to unwrap without leaving some of the wax paper on- but, man...were they good:)
Posted by: Megan | November 02, 2007 at 10:50 AM
For the very first time this year, I found halloween packs of my absolute favorite candy bar - PAYDAY!
Posted by: Susan Twohig | November 02, 2007 at 10:53 AM
Definitely candy corn...yum!! And even better is candy corn mixed with salted peanuts...Try it, you'll like it!!

I love anything mini-sized (well, candy that is), but my favorite are the fun-sized bags of skittles!
Posted by: Frances | November 02, 2007 at 10:56 AM
Milk Ways and then you stash them in the freezer and eat them frozen!

I'd have to say candy corn mixed with salted peanuts. Best Stuff EVER!
Posted by: Amy | November 02, 2007 at 11:00 AM
My favorite Halloween candy would be...Peanut M&M's in the tiny single serving packs. They are best served that way to me...as well...lets just say one can really go overboard and eat them like potato chips....(not saying who that "one" might be..) LOL Happy November everyone....

milky way dark is my favorite candy but for holloween I have a once a year preference for sixlets.
Posted by: rachel | November 02, 2007 at 11:05 AM
I like it all, but I guess my favorite would be mini Butterfingers.
Posted by: Sarah | November 02, 2007 at 11:05 AM
I'm not a big fan of chocolate, and I really can't stand nuts in my food. That being said, I have a complete and totally unreasonable weakness for Snickers bars. I don't get it, but that's ok.
Snickers gets my vote.
Posted by: Leah Cossarek | November 02, 2007 at 11:06 AM
My favorite has to be Hershey's Kissables--everything about this candy is tempting--just like my favorite sock yarns that seem so irresistably yummy :)
Posted by: | November 02, 2007 at 11:06 AM
My favorite Halloween candy has to be the Reese's peanut butter cups. Yummy!
Posted by: Jennifer | November 02, 2007 at 11:06 AM
Wax lips or wax harmonicas (yes-I'm that old) have always been my favorite Halloween treat - little hard to find nowadays but there are places that have them.

"I don't like candy corn, no I don't like candy corn. I really love Halloween, but I don't like candy corn."
Ok, so the song fits me, but my favorite of all time is Reese's Peanut Butter Cups. I love the individual cups that you get at halloween - for some reason they taste better than the regular two cups package.
Mini Snickers are a close second!
Posted by: Andrea | November 02, 2007 at 11:07 AM
M & M's in those teeny bags do it for me. Plain and peanut--I can't decide!

Posted by: Sally | November 02, 2007 at 11:13 AM
My favorite Halloween candy would be Mounds bars... however... since its my favorite I never buy it to hand out on Halloween because I'd end up eating it all myself and have nothing left to hand out to the kids
Posted by: Jan | November 02, 2007 at 11:13 AM
My favorite Halloween candy would be the smarties.
Posted by: Allison | November 02, 2007 at 11:14 AM
Reese's Peanut Butter Cups!!! Thanks for reminding me. Now I gotta have one... or two or three :)
Posted by: Melinda | November 02, 2007 at 11:14 AM
It's got to be the candy corn! Since it's only available at this time of year, it's a good excuse to splurge on some! . . . and we've got lots left over from the trick-or-treaters.
Posted by: Karen | November 02, 2007 at 11:15 AM
Favorite? do they still make $100,000 bars, they were the best! If I can't find those, I'll suffer and have a snickers.
Posted by: Fern Braverman | November 02, 2007 at 11:15 AM
Baby Ruth is my favorite. My kids always save those for me!

Tootsie Midgies or Candy Bones - either one can be in my treat bag and make me happy!!
Posted by: Debra | November 02, 2007 at 11:18 AM
Hmm, favorite Halloween candy? Well, given what I've been devouring from our leftover bowl of candy (we didn't get as many trick-or-treaters as we expected), I'd have to say Tootsie Rolls. Yum.
Posted by: whitney | November 02, 2007 at 11:22 AM
I love Caramel Apple Suckers because they last a long time. I do also have a fondness for candy corn mixed with peanuts- I put it in a little fabric basket ever fall. I once had a dog named Bear that loved candy corn and boy did recognize that basket. He knew the good stuff was coming out when that basket appeared. I think of him every year when it is time for candy corn and wish he was still here with us.
Posted by: Jan | November 02, 2007 at 11:25 AM
Butterfingers! Reminds me of when we were kids and my brothers and I sorted through all of the Halloween candy and swapped the stuff each of us loved.
Posted by: Anne | November 02, 2007 at 11:27 AM
I love the dark chocolates and they are hardly ever given away. When I find one it is like a treasure...

100 Grand Bars all the way!
Posted by: Sara K | November 02, 2007 at 11:27 AM
Mounds bars, since no one but me likes coconut. It's usually the only time I have them (since I don't buy them or I'd eat them all!) Sadly this year my daughter scored 3 Almond Joys, but no Mounds. I'll suffer through them. :-)
P.S. The Ruby River Smooshy is gorgeous!!
Posted by: Sarah B. | November 02, 2007 at 11:28 AM
For me: Almond Joy! They should make a sock yarn called "Almond Joy."

Posted by: Myrna Pollack | November 02, 2007 at 11:33 AM
My mother, being from England, did not know about peanut butter and I didn't discover it until I was about 14! I feel like I had a deprived childhood and I've been eating peanut butter sandwiches, or sometimes just a spoonful, almost daily for more than 60 years. My fav Halloween treat is of course, Reeses peanut butter cups. Nothing else comes close.

Gosh, my first comment went out to lalaland.... Here I go again.
Licorice! May be the only food I would crave on a desert island. It isn't big in the Halloween department tho' so my second choice is Tootsie Rolls. They were always easy to sneak from the kids too! :)Remember you have to check the candy and make sure it isn't poisoned!
Posted by: Renee' | November 02, 2007 at 11:37 AM
Brachs makes this Halloween mix that has a brownish jug in it. They only put in two or three in a bag, but that is my all time favorite for Halloween. I don't even know the flavor...maybe maple, or rum or something like that, but it is the best and I always look for the bags that have more than one or two showing.
Posted by: Susan Carey | November 02, 2007 at 11:38 AM
I have to admit that I'm not a candy person. BUT, I also must admit that the combination of chocolate and peanut butter is irresistable! So Reese's peanut butter cups comes in first in my one-horse race.
Posted by: Chayele | November 02, 2007 at 11:40 AM
I didn't see this in the lists of yummies, but my favorite is popcorm balls. Way back they could have been home made, but now they come individually wrapped. Home made always tastes better. So I make them for myself and family.
Posted by: Val | November 02, 2007 at 11:40 AM
This year I found a new candy. I was in a bag of assorted Halloween candies I picked up at the local candy store, Nana's. It is shaped like candy corn but a bit wider and the base is red. The flavor? A hint of cinnamon. YUM!

Every Halloween, we go visit our neighbors down the road a ways, who fix pumpkin pie and coffee for us. It kind of marks the beginning of "pumpkin pie season". It just doesn't get any better than that!
Posted by: Linda | November 02, 2007 at 11:46 AM
What would Halloween be without candy corn style pumpkins? Love those candy corn pumpkins.
